Santa Sleigh Build

Where has this Exterior Latex Wood Primer been my whole life!. Choosing the right people to help you choose the right paint is good, helping you choose the right primer makes the entire project. First you have to understand my wife and I are what you might call naturalists, as to say we only paint wood when it is absolutely necessary. With that, we have a Christmas display that includes 9 reindeer and a Santa Sleigh. All of the items are wood and were stained about 25 years ago. This year (2022) we decided for Christmas we were going to change up the display for Christmas. I decided it was time to retire the old, very small Santa sleigh (nicknamed Toy Sleigh). I decided to build an 8 foot long, 4 foot high, 5 person (2 adults in front, 3 kids in the back) Santa Sleigh. Once I had it laid out, cut out, edged, and fitted together with 3/4" oak plywood it was time to find primer and paint. Now I needed a primer for 100% of all this wood to make it last in the Chicago winters, and 2 colors of paint. A quick trip to my local Sherwin-Williams store (703408). While browsing through the colors, Travis asked if I needed any help. I explained the project, showed him some pictures and said I was looking for a nice deep rich burgundy color. He pointed me in the right direction, showing me some of the color options and asked if he could help someone else while I looked. That would be great. End the end the wife and I decided on Stolen Kiss red paint and I had grabbed a few Gold color tabs for outlines to think about. I went back to the Travis and asked about primers for this project. Seeing its going to be out in the cold and snow for 6 to 8 weeks every year, I wanted something to help protect it. Low and behold comes the Exterior latex wood primer. The stolen kiss paint recommended a gray primer and Travis was very kind to tint it for me. After applying the first coat on the first of many pieces, I was amazed at the coverage, quality of the depth on fresh 100 grit sanded oak plywood, and by the end of completing all the parts how far it lasted! I expected to need 2 gallons, good thing I only purchased one as I ended up only needing one. The big difference came when applying the exterior paint. The color after drying matched the sample card exactly! Applied very smooth, and each coat looked better and better. Once the clear coat was applied, the richness of the color we picked out came to life... This Santa Sleigh (while will be fun watching people and children take pictures in it) is Rich in color, gives a sense of elegance, and very inviting. Easy going on

Found this SW exterior primer easy to apply. covered well. Was painting old house that had not been painted in 25 years. Lots of dried bare wood, pressed particle board siding, and cinder blocks.
