Take a closer look at this year’s Colormix Forecast through the eyes of our designer account executives and their clients. These color pros have keen insights about the five new palettes and what’s getting designers excited about them.
Creating Calm
Most of the color experts we spoke with agree the new 2020 Colormix Forecast palettes work to create restorative spaces for relaxing, recharging and inviting in creativity. For Mona King of Mona + Associates Design in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the Haven palette works well for places like start-up incubators and other entrepreneurial spaces. “Because entrepreneurs work so many hours, the colors used in a space need to comfort and inspire,” King says. “Bringing the colors of nature into a space increases creativity, productivity and collaboration, which is a great ROI for employers.”
Nodding to Nature
Taking refuge in the natural world also seems to be a common thread among the color pros we tapped. “I find this forecast resonates with designers for its warm and nature-inspired palettes,” says Shane Jones, a Sherwin-Williams designer account executive in North Carolina. “Whether they’re designing harmonious family rooms, restful bedrooms or a whole house, this year’s intrinsic combination of colors will inspire and bring natural beauty into any space. In nature, it’s always right.”
Clint Craven, a Sherwin-Williams designer account executive in the South Florida metro region, agrees. “With so much going on in the world, it’s important that we give ourselves space to escape and recharge,” he says. “Using colors derived from nature provides us the connectedness and restorative powers that we need to tackle our day-to-day lives.”
Getting Happy
All of the experts we spoke with agreed the new palettes also bring a sense of joy. “What excites me most about the Colormix Forecast 2020 is how it embodies happiness,” says Kendell Alio, a Sherwin-Williams designer account executive in the metro New Jersey area. “Whether your happiness comes from people, nature or spirituality, each palette evokes happiness. Designers in New Jersey are talking most about the balance of color and the striking shades of blue and the soft pastels throughout the color story.”
Finding Balance
This year’s color trend palettes were conceived to create welcoming and intuitive environments. They foster focus and balance for mind, body and spirit — something most of the experts we spoke with agreed is needed in the world right now. “2020 is going to be a big year for everyone,” says Sabina Jahic, Sherwin-Williams designer marketing manager for the Southeast region. “We are starting a new decade, celebrating anniversaries and it’s an election year. All of this change affects us, making us crave balance in our lives, so it makes sense that these palettes offer visual balance for our surroundings. I’m so excited about how designers are already using the Colormix palettes in spaces like master suites and combined indoor/outdoor living spaces. I can’t wait to see what’s next!”
