How to Paint an Ombré Arch Mural
This simple arched mural concept uses only two colors to create a beautiful boho ombré effect. And the good news is that imperfection only adds to the charm and whimsical feel, making this accent a beautiful touch in any bedroom or nursery.
Cost: $
Skill Level: Intermediate
Duration: 1 day
Prep Tools
Using a jig saw, cut the 2x4 to the height of the lowest arch you want to make. Round out the end of the 2x4 with the saw.
Tip: You can use a cup or other rounded item as a template.
Create Guide
Tape as many carpenter pencils as you want arches to your straight object 2” apart (we used six) to make a guide.
Level
Let the wall dry for about an hour before starting on the second coat.
When the paint is still tacky from the second coat, carefully pull the painter's tape off the wall and admire your new matte black accent wall.

Draw
Keeping an edge against the 2x4, angle the guide so all of the pencils are touching the wall and draw it up and around the arch, and back down the other side.
Continue drawing the arches until the wall is filled.
Paint
On to painting! To create the ombré effect, start with Emerald® Interior Acrylic Latex Paint — we used Softened Green SW 6177 — on the first (shortest) arch.
Tip: Don’t worry about getting the lines straight – organic lines add to the whimsical effect.
Tip: Not sure how much paint you need? Try our Paint Calculator for a helpful estimate.
Mix
In a paint pail, mix one part Softened Green with one part white paint. Make sure to mix enough so you have leftover paint for the next series of arches.
Paint the second arch.
To the remaining mixture, add the same amount of white paint to dilute the color further.
Paint the third arch.
Tip: Any white paint will work for this project.
Finish
Continue mixing the color mixture with equal parts white paint and painting the arches until all of the arches have been painted.
Let dry and enjoy your ombré arch mural.
