How to Stain Concrete Basements

Unpainted Concrete Basement or Laundry Room Floors
- Prepare the surface by cleaning the floor and etching the surface to permit penetration of the stain.
- Apply two coats of CONFLEX Flexible Concrete Waterproofer Smooth, H&C® COLORTOP™ Solvent-Based Solid Color Concrete Sealer or H&C® COLORTOP™ Water-Based Solid Color Concrete Stain according to label directions.
- If desired, decorate with an H&C® Shield-Crete® Water-Based Epoxy Garage Floor Coating.
Unpainted Concrete Walls
- Apply two coats of H&C® COLORTOP™ Water-Based Solid Color Concrete Stain according to label directions.
- Surfaces that are damp due to moisture penetrating through the walls should be coated with 1 or 2 coats of LOXON® XP™ Waterproofing Masonry Coating.
Painted Concrete Surfaces
- Remove all old, peeling, flaking paint.
- Rough the surface with sandpaper and clean thoroughly to ensure proper adhesion of stain.
- Apply two coats of H&C® COLORTOP™ Water-Based Solid Color Concrete Stain according to label directions.
