How to Paint a Matte Black Accent Wall
Looking for an easy and stylish way to elevate your home? Paint a chic, matte black accent wall. Matte black wall paint makes a statement that's uniquely elegant and bold. When paired with black, other colors and neutrals appear brighter and really pop. For tips on how to apply this feature wall paint, see the steps below.

Prep
Start by taping the bottom of the wall or baseboard with painter's tape and a drop cloth.
Move the drop cloth about an inch away from the wall so that the tape will stick to both the floor and the drop cloth.
Use painter's tape to edge along the seam of the ceiling and the corners of the adjoining walls.
Tip: The best rooms for a matte black accent wall will have plenty of natural light to keep things balanced and airy.
Wondering if a black accent wall will make a room feel bigger or smaller? A common misconception is that dark hued-walls make a space feel small. But the opposite is true. Dark walls make a room appear more spacious.
Paint
Pour your paint into a tray and use a small paintbrush to cover the areas along the floor, ceiling, and corners. Then, use the roller to cover the large parts of the wall.
For this project we used Emerald® Interior Acrylic Latex Paint in Black Magic SW 6991. For a matte look, we recommend a flat finish.
Tip: Not sure how much paint you need? Try our Paint Calculator for a helpful estimate.
Re-coat
Let the wall dry for about an hour before starting on the second coat.
When the paint is still tacky from the second coat, carefully pull the painter's tape off the wall and admire your new matte black accent wall.
