PaintCare^® Program

What is PaintCare?

PaintCare Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that represents paint manufacturers, like Sherwin-Williams, and helps plan and operate paint stewardship programs across the United States in states/jurisdictions that pass paint stewardship laws. PaintCare manages the process of handling leftover paint by collecting and recycling it.

How does it work?

PaintCare is funded by a fee which is applied to new architectural paint products at the time of purchase in each state or jurisdiction that has passed a paint stewardship law. The fee funds all aspects of the paint stewardship program. This includes paint collection, transportation, recycling, public outreach, and program administration. The fee is not a tax and not a deposit, and will not be refunded when paint is dropped off for recycling.

Recycling Your Paint

In states and jurisdictions where PaintCare operates a program, you can drop off unwanted or leftover paint at designated drop-off locations. Sherwin-Williams is pleased to volunteer many of our stores as drop-off locations.

Find a Store for Recycling

Before bringing in your leftover paint, ensure that the lids are on securely, that the container is not leaking, and that the paint is in the original container with the label on it. The maximum size of an accepted container is 5 gallons.
