Nestled in Missouri's scenic Ozark Mountains, the city of Branson has long been a popular tourist destination. Businesses there often have a lot of fun in coming up with new ways to attract visitors. The Great American Steak & Chicken House, for example, claims to be the home of the World's Largest Rooster.

The 43-ft. tall fiberglass creation wears a star-spangled vest and bow tie, and sports an American flag lapel pin to boot. But like any oversized fiberglass landmark, it occasionally needs a fresh coat of paint. John McBride, a painting contractor from nearby Kimberling City, recently won the bid to repaint the fiberglass rooster.

"This was fun aerial lift work that took me up 43 feet for 21 days," McBride says. "As most of it was painted standing up, I used Sherwin-Williams Industrial Enamel applied with a brush and a four-inch roller. A sea sponge weenie roller was used on the legs to save time and stress on the wrists. Every star was cut in with the blue and white colors from the Sherwin-Williams store in Hollister, Missouri."

The paint job has to be perfect, McBride says.

"Thousands of tourists get their picture taken with the rooster every year."
